An effective mass transit system lies at the center of a vibrant economy.  The ability to move people throughout the metropolitan area shapes every other aspect of the world of work.

The NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority has delivered unevenly on its task to facilitate transportation for the riding public over the years.

Protecting MTA Riders and Workers

The NYC ADA calls upon the MTA to:

  • Remove the “net zero” contract offer from the negotiating table. Bargain in “good faith” to ensure that their unionized workers are provided a safe workplace; receive a fair wage; are provided adequate and affordable health care for themselves and their families; as well as a continuation of current pension  and other benefits.

  • Restore the draconian March 2010 service cuts, which included the elimination of 38 bus routes and more than 26,000 annual rides; elimination/consolidation of subway lines (see below); and reduction/elimination of para transit services

  • Maintain an aggressive program of maintenance and capital improvement projects to ensure residents in all five boroughs especially in the outer regions of Staten Island, the Bronx and Queens are able to travel to their destinations and return home in comfort, safety, and in a timely manner.

  • Hold to your promise of maintaining the current fare through 2012.

  • Encourage increased ridership and conduct additional research towards the development of environmentally sustainable technologies for MTA fleets on rails and roadways. An effort that will not only reduce the carbon emissions of those who are current non-users of public transportation systems, but will also reduce MTA’s carbon footprint.
